| The following are my beliefs about religion. My parents were both raised by strictly religious families. They rebelled while raising my sibling and I, however, and told us that we could choose any church, any religion and that they would support our choices.
These are the reasons why I never chose:
For most, religion is what brings people together; it is habit, it is tradition, it is something to keep them on the straight and narrow, it is a reason to connect with the rest of the human race. It is a place to find God, if you're looking for him, and to find you're soul, if you can ever accomplish that through the droning noise.
Connection to God aside, religion is an exclusive, members-only club. This come in different cases of severity, the least of which probably coming from the Quakers, but it's all the same. It may make a person feel a part of society but all it really does is divide the world into different societies; clashing societies. All it takes is a single wrong turn and suddenly those clubs become gangs with drive-by's in mind.
Just take a glance around you; the world and its history are chock-full of proof. |
